Z - 8 Scale Tribute Build
by Co-Author Rich S.

Pictured at right is a model in a 1/48th scale of our Uncle Bob's Z Square 8.
It measures roughly 3 feet nose to tail with a 2 foot wingspan.
The build was a 3 month project starting around 15 January 2013 and completed mid March.
It was a Revell/Monogram kit received as a Christmas gift from Co-author Rich Cookson, December 2012.
The build was customized to include hand-designed nose art decals, lead ship tail band, and 7 mission credits to the nose. The interior is also detailed and includes some hand painting of pieces. The exterior is done with 3 different colors of Alclad metal paint with an airbrush.
The "Mission to Albuquerque" build was part of the Fine Scale Modelers website in two forums,
Gift GB and NMF IV forums. (Gift GB is Group build and NMF is Natural Metal Finish year 4 of the series build).
There were many hiccups along the way like the right wing top's, base paint bubbling issue that had to be fixed, along with the first time use of Alclad metal paint, rattle can metalizer paint on the cowlings, pastel soot engine exhaust rubs.
I have included a gallery of the build process below so everyone can see what went into the project. Overall, it came out very well with GB participants comments: (scroll the document page to see all)
